The modified T-47 Airspeeder, manufactured by Incom Corporation, reaches a speed of a good 1100 kilometers per hour using afterburners, but is not capable of space flight. The T-47, reworked by the Rebels, is called the Snowspeeder and is used in the battle on the ice planet Hoth to keep the approaching AT-AT at bay. The modifications included technical conversions to deal with the instant freeze of the propulsion systems. Thanks to their high speeds, the Snowspeeders are difficult to hit. The resistant ropes, originally designed to carry heavy loads and used effectively against the AT-ATs, are fired by harpoons.
